
Identify thieves are now using Seek and Trade Me. Simple tips to protect you, the job seeker!
This weekend the New Zealand Herald reported that identity thieves are placing fake jobs on websites like Trade Me and Seek in a bid to gain the private details of people who submit their CV’s to potential employers. According to the article the scammers are cleverly cloning the logos, company details and websites of reputable businesses and are advertising fake vacancies on mainstream job sites.
As a recruiter, I have always been surprised by the vast amount of unnecessary personal information that people include in their CV’s and cover letters. I guess it was really just a matter of time before identity thieves took advantage of unsuspecting job seekers!
Now that you are aware of those cunning offenders, do not to include any unnecessary personal details in your initial job application such as:
Be vigilant, if something looks a bit odd, it probably is – take the time to explore the credibility of a job ad or a company before applying!
