YOUR JOB SEARCH SUCCESS CHECKLIST! – ARE YOU LOOKING IN THE RIGHT PLACES? 6 Tips for ‘360 degree’ Job Searching

6 Tips for ‘360 degree’ Job Searching

In a tight job market you’re definitely going to need to make your own luck!  I’d love to say that just meeting me, a professional executive career matchmaker will do the trick – but to be honest, for best results, I recommend you cover all of your bases!

To help you – here are my top 6 Tips for 360 Degree Job Searching:

  1. Get Found: Make sure your LinkedIn profile is complete and includes the words and job titles that you yourself are searching for!

(Talent searchers on LinkedIn use keyword searches to find great people, it’s like searching on Google – if you want to come up in a search, make sure your profile has the ‘right’ words in it. A totally complete profile also increases the odds that you’ll come in searches)

  1. Don’t Miss an Opportunity: Sign up for job alerts on all key job websites such as Seek and Trade Me

(If you don’t want to miss a beat you can be sent all the new vacancies that are listed daily in your chosen field)

  1. Be in the Know: Create and access your job alerts on LinkedIn

(follow this link to see how: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/69315/accessing-your-job-alerts-on-linkedin?lang=en)

  1. Get others Talking about your Awesomeness: Network Network Network!

(A very high percentage of roles at executive level will go to people that have been recommended or referred by somebody else.  You don’t need to tell people that you are looking for another role but it’s important to build and maintain relationships across your chosen sector so that you are aware of any upcoming opportunities and so that you are top of mind for others.

  1. Find a Reputable Ambassador and Career Matchmaker: She might just introduce you to your dream role.

(Build a sincere relationship with a trusted recruitment consultant who is genuinely interested in helping you.  Loyalty goes both ways and if you are sincere in your search she can introduce you to key industry leaders (you’ll circumvent traditional recruitment processes and get in front of decision makers), she’ll help you to identify and connect with  opportunities that may never go to market and she can help you to build your career network.

  1. Go to the Source: Check out career pages on company websites

(Here you’ll find a list of ‘obvious’ vacancies that may not have been advertised on a job website. Decide whether applying directly for the role is your best way forward or whether another approach would work better – DO NOT – just send your CV as an expression of interest to a general information email address.  CV’s can get lost, or not taken seriously if there’s not an actual suitable vacancy.

Wishing you every success on your job search!
